HomeOur VoicePfizer Highlights Commitment to All Patients During Patients in Focus Week

Monday, October 4, 2021

As part of its ongoing commitment to patients, Pfizer is holding a global, week-long internal event from October 4–8, Patients in Focus, to recognize the importance that patients have on every facet of its work. With the theme “Patients are Our Why”, Patients in Focus will rally colleagues from all groups and functions around our shared goal of being the most patient-centric biopharmaceutical company in the world.

“We are made up of many local markets and differing functions, but our Purpose at Pfizer is global,” said Sally Susman, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Pfizer. “For our work to be meaningful, every function of Pfizer needs to understand the importance of engaging patients, caregivers, and advocates in our work. By showcasing real patient experiences and where we have made an impact on patients’ lives, Patients in Focus week will build empathy and show colleagues how to focus on patient advocacy year-round and in everything we do.”

In Canada, a series of local Patients in Focus activities will inform, inspire and celebrate our collective commitment to patients, including an interactive lunch and learn session on health equity and a panel discussion with Canadian patient advocates to exchange views on a variety of topics including health literacy, patient centricity, and patient advocacy among other subjects.

The important work led by the Canadian Organization for Rare Disorder (CORD) will also be highlighted on the global Pfizer scene, as Durhane Wong-Rieger, President and Chief Executive Officer of CORD, will be a guest speaker during the inaugural Patients in Focus internal event with CEO Albert Bourla and Global Biopharma President Angela Hwang. “I'm so pleased to be invited to help the Pfizer team launch Patients in Focus Week. I'm impressed, but probably not surprised that Pfizer is so committed to such a degree that it’s taking the time to ensure that everyone across the organization who wears a Pfizer badge is in fact focused on the patients,” said Mrs. Wong-Rieger.

“At Pfizer, we are committed to listen to, and integrate, the feedback of patients and advocates in all aspects of our work, says Cole Pinnow, President, Pfizer Canada. Patients in Focus is an opportunity for us to celebrate this commitment to patients and ensure that all Pfizer colleagues have the knowledge and resources to incorporate patient voices into their work.”
