When Effie was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), she was not prepared for what it meant to live with a chronic inflammatory disease. By educating herself and being an informed patient, Effie became empowered to have better conversations with her care team. She then channeled her love of video making to share her experiences and build a supportive UC community.

After continuing to experience the effects of her UC symptoms, Effie decided to make some changes in her personal and professional life that she feels complement the disease management plan that she developed with her care team. She advocates for others living with UC to also listen to their bodies and to find a plan that works best for them.
