PFIZER CANADA INVESTS IN THE CREATION OF THE MONTREAL INSTITUTE FOR PALLIATIVE CARE

11/05/18

KIRKLAND (Quebec), May 11, 2018 ‒ Pfizer Canada is pleased to announce a $400,000 investment to support the creation of the Montreal Institute for Palliative Care (MIPC), a highly collaborative endeavor that is committed to extending the benefits of palliative care to as many Canadians as possible.

The announcement of the creation of the Institute was made during National Hospice Palliative Care Week by Ms. Teresa Dellar, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the West Island Palliative Care Residence in the presence of the Quebec Health Minister Gaétan Barrette and many government officials. The MIPC is made possible through lead donations from eight partners including Pfizer Canada.

In collaboration with its partners, the MIPC will be dedicated to advancing palliative care access and capabilities in Canada. Its mission is to extend the benefits of best-in-class palliative care to as many patients and families as possible through education, knowledge transfer and research. According to a recent Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association report, Canada is still unable to provide palliative care services to over 70% of those in need.

John Helou, President, Pfizer Canada, stated “The West Island Palliative Care Residence is a model for the entire country. Through our strong partnerships with community organizations, we are reinforcing the need to put patients first. The creation of the MIPC program will help ensure that access to palliative care is available across Canada. The need for this service is important and we must fill the gap to ensure that the lives of people seeking such care are impacted in a positive way.”

Pfizer Canada has a long standing record of supporting the mission of the Palliative Care Residence in a variety of meaningful ways over the last 16 years and is proud to stand with other supporters in the creation of the Institute.

Rhonda O’Gallagher, Vice-president, Corporate Affairs, Pfizer Canada, and President of the West Island Palliative Care Residence Foundation Board said “Having been involved with the West Island Palliative Care Residence for many years, I can’t advocate enough for the services that they provide. The Montreal Institute for Palliative Care will help ensure that the needs of patients across the country are met with compassion. Pfizer Canada’s support to the program is furthering the empowerment of health at every stage of life.”

Teresa Dellar, Executive Director and Co-Founder, West Island Palliative Care Residence noted “The creation of the Montreal Institute for Palliative Care is a natural evolution of our mission: to promote the benefits of superior palliative care to an ever-growing number of Canadians. I would like to express our deepest gratitude to our lead donors who fully supported our vision for the future.”
