Montréal, April 27, 2018 — Pfizer Canada is pleased to announce a $100,000 donation to Heart & Stroke  in support of the foundation’s awareness campaign for heart disease and stroke in women. The announcement was made during a discussion panel at the launch of the #TimeToSeeRed campaign at Scotiabank Theatre Montréal, on April 25.

There are significant gaps in knowledge about women’s hearts, and education on women’s heart and brain health is sorely lacking. While progress has been made in Canada recently, heart disease and stroke remain the leading cause of premature death in women. For that reason, Heart & Stroke has launched its #TimeToSeeRed awareness campaign, which aims to galvanize the public, healthcare professionals, healthcare systems and governments to support and make the changes needed to reduce the gap between men’s and women’s heart and brain health.

“Women simply aren’t aware of just how harmful heart disease and stroke are, because they mistakenly believe that other conditions are more dangerous. But in Canada, these conditions kill a woman every seventeen minutes. Things need to change. It’s time for women to take charge of their own health and work to close the gaps they face in healthcare. Pfizer’s generous support will help us make even more women aware of this reality,” stated Dana Ades-Landy, CEO of Heart & Stroke in Quebec.

“Women’s health is one of Pfizer’s top priorities. As a result, we felt that we needed to support Heart & Stroke’s campaign and make a difference on the matter,” added Denise Cloutier, Director, Access and Government Relations with Pfizer Canada. “We are using science and our global resources to improve Canadians’ health, in all walks of life. Our commitment is reflected in everything we do, from awareness campaigns to community partnerships.”

This major donation will expose even more women to the campaign, raising concern and encouraging them to take action.
