Join us in cheering on 55 Canadian Paralympians competing in PyeongChang!

KIRKLAND, Quebec – March 9, 2018 – Today marks the opening of the Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Until March 18 Canadians from coast-to-coast will have the chance to watch Canada’s Paralympians compete on the world stage.

Approximately 670 athletes from more than 45 countries, including 55 from Canada, will compete in PyeongChang in 80 medal events. Athletes taking part in the Paralympic Winter Games will participate in five sport disciplines, including Para Alpine Skiing, Para Nordic (Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing), Para Snowboard, Para Ice Hockey, and Wheelchair Curling.

The Paralympic Games supports athletes with a range of disabilities such as spinal injuries, visual impairment, cerebral palsy, and amputation, by providing them with the opportunity to excel in sport regardless of physical impairment.

“We have had the honour and pleasure of watching and being part of the tremendous growth and success of the Paralympic movement in Canada since 1996,” says John Helou, President, Pfizer Canada. “Far too many of the 5 million Canadians living with a disability are not accessing the health benefits of participating in sport. Our partnership, which we recently renewed until 2019, focuses on the health benefits of inclusive sports opportunities for all Canadians, and on supporting the next generation of athletes through the Paralympic Foundation of Canada.”

The video series below, developed in partnership with the Canadian Paralympic Committee, brings to life why we have been committed to ensuring that all Canadians living with a disability can participate in sport for the past 22 years. Thank you to the athletes who shared their health story for this series.

Canadians will have the chance to watch the Games via live broadcasts, streaming video, and digital and social media.
